The Introduction of Mountain Maoshan Scenic Spot
- Yin Palace and the Sacred Statue of Laozi
Located in the heart of Maoshan Mountain scenic area, Yuanfuwanning Palace, also called Yin Palace, which is named after Jiulaoxiandujun Seal, one of the four invaluable treasures which were bestowed to Maoshan Mountain by Emperor Huizong of Song, is an important tourist attraction of Maoshan Mountain scenic area. The most celebrated thing in Yin Palace is the outdoor bronze statue of Laozi which set a record in the Guinness World Record. Laozi is the originator of Taoism, whose sacred statue stands 99 Chi(nearly 108 feet) high and weighs 106 tons and consists of 226 pieces of bronze. Shortly after it was finished in 1996, a honeycomb about 1 meter in diameter was formed naturally in the left middle finger of the statue. What is really amazing is that it has never been dropped despite the wind and rain for years and this is most famous mystery in Maoshan Mountain, named ‘honeycomb as the ring’.
- Top Palace
Maoshan Mountain is the birthplace of the Shangqing school of Taoism. It is said that there were ‘Three palaces, Five temples and Seventy-two thatched pavilions’ in its golden age. What faces Yin Palace from afar is Jiuxiaowanfu Palace, located on the top of Damao Peak, which is the tallest peak of Maoshan Mountain and is 372.5 meters above sea level. The palace can date back to Han dynasty. Zhu Yijun, Emperor Shenzong of Ming, demanded to build temples here and there were more than 100 buildings in the golden age, but only about 20 buildings remains after many wars. It became open to the public after repair in 1982 and is a must-see for tourists to visit Maoshan Mountain.
- Magic monument
Maoshan Mountain was one of the six major mountain revolutionary bases in the country. In 1995, in memory of the 50th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in southern Jiangsu province, there were 31,300 party members in the city of Zhenjiang donated money to build The Monument to the Victory of the Anti-Japanese War in Southern Jiangsu Province on the top of Wangmushan Mountain which is at the foot of the main peak of Maoshan Mountain. The inscriptions of the monument were written by the former Secretary of Defence Zhang Aiping. The monument has a net height of 28 meters. During the Spring Festival in 1997, local residents found a loud ‘tick and click’ sound of trumpet in the sky when they set off firecrackers. The news spread everywhere and up to now it has been attracting numerous tourists, experts and old comrades who participated in the revolutionary war to come and find out the mystery. This is a magic phenomenon of one of the world wonders and successfully declared the Shanghai Great World Guinness World Record in 2006, and it is now one of the popular tourist attractions in Maoshan Mountain scenic area.
4. Mountain Mao Scenic Spot
As a National 5A level tourist attraction, Mountain Mao scenic spot is located in the southwest of Jiangsu province, jointing three famous cities---Nanjing, Zhenjiang and Changzhou. The whole scenic spot covers up towards153 square kilometers, including 10 administrative villages. With a developed highway network(Huning Expressway, Yangtze River high way, 104 state-class highway, 312 state-class highway and other traffic arteries) , it is within 2.5 hours drive from15 main cities in Yangtze River Delta Region to the scenic spot .
It enjoys high distinctions, universally acknowledged as one of the best International Health-keeping base, the National Ecological Town, the National Top 100 Scenic Spot, the National Top 100 Red Red tourism classic scenic areas, one of six major national anti-Japanese base areas in mountainous regions, one of the top ten National Taoism Cultural tourism resorts, one of the top ten National Charming and Health-keeping spots. During the period of China’s 13th plan of five - year national development, in order to further integrate their tourism resources, the Mount Mao administration is going to take a series of effective measures as follows: management system innovation, market-oriented reform, professional operation, capitalization operation and diversified competition, as well as environmental and sustainable development. Besides, the administration is intended to create a complex including the industrial chain, the total element chain and the ecological chain in order to realize the transformation and upgrading of the tourism economy. Thus, Mount Mao scenic spot will be the first choice for the aged in the Nanjing metropolitan circle. It also has the strength to be the classic revolutionary education base in southern Jiangsu, national Mount Mao Lake tourism destination and the national first-class Taoism tourist destination.
Second Mao Peak and Third Mao Peak Scenic Spot
The three main peaks of the Mountain Mao range, known as Giant peak, Second Mao Peak and Third Mao Peak, also play an important part in the tourism there. The forest coverage reaches up to 96%, and there are a distance of about 4 kilometers green roads when a shuttle winds its way around Secondary and Tertiary peaks. On the Secondary peak, tourists have the opportunity to enjoy the following scenic spots: the Virtue Temple, the Stone for an Ancient Drunken Litterateur ,the Fishing Terrace and so on. Also, on the Tertiary peak lie some scenic spots, including the Kindness Temple and the Thunder Pool. It is a splendid place for visitors to have a leisure vacation, experience cycling, explore the nature, or free their state of mind.
6. Chongxi Longevity Palace
The Maoshan Taoism once had the prosperity of " three palaces, five views, seventy-two Kaya ". On August 28, 2016, the completion of Longevity Palace, which was built for five years, was opened to the public. This Taoist temple is the first cultural Taoist temple, jointly built by the administrative Committee of Maoshan scenic area and the Maoshan Taoist Monastery, covering 120 acres, including Health-Keeping Valley, Lu building and Lu court. Taoist zhengyipai, Maoshan Taoist school, Maoshan Taoist Painting Academy, Maoshan Taoist Museum, Scripture hall, students' summer camp, winter camp, Taoist wedding, initiation ceremony of the 18-year–old and so on can be a good approach for tourists to participating in Taoism culture in Maoshan. This year, Chongxi Longevity Palace has restored Maoshan monastery in Jiangsu province for the first time since the Yuan Dynasty. The first 26 scribes had passed the Lu ritual examination and became a true Taoist disciple. In 2017, the Maoshan monastery will resume the grant of Lu throughout the country.
7. Visitor Centre
The Maoshan Mountain Tourist Service Center takes being green, ecological and environmentally friendly as the theme, covering an area of 77,000 square meters. And it is divided into five functional areas, including the main entrance square → the ecological parking area → the nosy square → tourist service center → the boutique business district, with a total investment of 200 million RMB. It sets guidance, consultation, distribution, display, interpretation, rescue, business and other functions as one. The main entrance square covers an area of 38, 000 square meters, with eight landmark landscape columns Maoshan Mountain. And the cylindrical sculpture of Chinese Taoism, the development history and main characters of Maoshan Mountain are on them. The square is surrounded by landscape greening. The entire entrance atmosphere is magnificent, and fully reflects the Taoist cultural characteristics, which has become a landmark in the Maoshan Mountain.
8. Jiulong Hill scenic spot
Jiulong Hill, also known as Wawushan Mountain, is located in the southern part of Maoshan Mountain and it belongs to the original and ecological scenic spot surrounded by natural scenery. It is about 20 square kilometers, consisting of a dozen of the size peaks, vegetation cover, streams. The three main peaks are connected by the mountain of Yaji Mountain, Wawushan Mountain and Masan. with Yaji mountain of 410 meters above sea level functioning as the backrest. Jiulong Hill and Masan being the left and right handrails, these three mountains form a large " armchair ", which is inlaid with two pearls in the Greenwaves lake, making a natural ecological landscape picture. During the anti-Japanese War, the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries, such as Chen Yi, Su Yu, Tan Zhenlin, Liao Haitao, Luo Zhongyi marched into the Maoshan Mountain base areas and they once stationed in the Wawushan Mountain, leaving many legends.
